Good news for fans of Dutch rolling stock: the latest Roco Plan V trainsets with item numbers 7710015 and 7720015 have finally arrived and are now available for immediate delivery. These long-awaited models bring the iconic Mat ’64 – better known as the “Apekop” – back to life with an exceptional level of detail.
The prototype: NS Plan V (Mat ’64)
The Plan V was one of the standard stopping trains of the Dutch Railways (NS) from the mid-1960s onwards. These two-car electric multiple units operated on almost all electrified lines in the Netherlands and were a familiar sight for decades. With a total of 246 units built, it was the most widely produced trainset of the NS. The version now released by Roco represents trainset number 432, in the well-known yellow livery from Era IV.
Roco 7710015 – DC digital with sound
The Roco 7710015 is designed for a 2-rail DC system. This model is fully digital and equipped with sound, allowing immediate use on a modern digital layout.
It features both a sound decoder and a function decoder, enabling realistic driving sounds and additional functions. The trainset is also equipped with digitally switchable LED interior lighting, enhancing realism during operation.
The high level of detailing is immediately noticeable: fine pantographs, a dark grey chassis, and numerous separately applied parts make this a highly realistic model.
This version is also fitted with advertising panels, matching the later service period of the Plan V in the Netherlands.
Roco 7720015 – AC digital with sound
The Roco 7720015 is technically almost identical, but designed for 3-rail AC systems such as Märklin. This version is also fully digital and equipped with sound.
Like the DC version, it includes a sound decoder and a function decoder, along with switchable interior lighting and LED headlights and tail lights that change with the direction of travel.
The detailing matches the DC version: a finely executed trainset with many separately applied parts, realistic pantographs, and an accurate Era IV paint scheme.
This version also includes advertising panels, making it perfectly suited for layouts set in the 1970s and 1980s.
